Who was Jessica Aber? Former US Attorney dies at 43: Cause of death under investigation
Aber stepped down from her position earlier this year as a result of Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential elections. She was found dead on Saturday morning.

On August 10, 2021 President Biden nominated Aber as US Attorney where she served for the Eastern District of Virginia. Aber announced her resignation on Jan. 17, 2025 after serving the country as US Attorney for over three years:
“I’ve had the privilege of spending my career as a prosecutor in the Eastern District of Virginia working alongside talented, hard-working public servants who manage matters affecting citizens here and across the world,” Aber said. “Concluding my service to the District as its U.S. Attorney has been an honor beyond measure. I am deeply grateful to Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine and to President Biden for the opportunity to lead this office, and to Attorney General Garland for his steadfast leadership. I am proud of the work we have done with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners to enforce the law and build community trust.”
Aber was originally from California, but received her law degree from William & Mary School of Law in 2006 after graduating from the University of Richmond. After working in the private sector, she worked in the US Attorney’s Office in the Easter District of Virginia from 2009 until 2016, when she became Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division.
In that position she investigated financial fraud, public corruption, violent crime, and child exploitation cases. From 2015 to 2016, she served as counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice.
