Will Walmart and Target be open on Memorial Day 2025?
On Monday, May 26, the United States will be celebrating Memorial Day, with some looking to use it to get some holiday purchases.

On Monday, May 26, the United States will celebrate Memorial Day to honor those who have died serving in the US Armed Forces.
This is an important day on the calendar, one of the 11 permanent federal holidays in the country. As it is a national holiday, government offices are required to close. On the other hand, private institutions decide whether to close or remain open.
Generally, post offices, libraries, schools, the stock exchange and banks will be closed. Supermarkets usually observe only some holidays – Costco for example this year – so it’s good to be in the know.
Walmart and Target open on Memorial Day
Most supermarkets and retailers will remain open, although hours may vary from one branch to another.
Some establishments take advantage of the long holiday weekend to offer deals, promotions and discounts on certain items. Such is the case of Walmart and Target, which is why both will open during Memorial Day.
All Walmart locations will be open during regular hours. However, these may vary depending on location, so we recommend checking before visiting a store.

The origin of Memorial Day
Originally, Memorial Day only honored those who died in the Civil War. This changed after World War I. Since then, during Memorial Day all those who have died serving in the US Armed Forces are remembered.
In 1971, the United States Congress declared the last Monday in May a federal holiday. On Memorial Day the United States flag is placed at half-mast, from dawn to noon. In addition, the president of the country visits the National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
