Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League leak reveals an in-game store and a battle pass
Rocksteady’s new game appears to have been a live service game all along, after a leaked screenshot reveals its familiar looking menu.
Alarms have begun ringing around Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League after a leaked screenshot of the game made its way to social media, and was subsequently confirmed as real by The Video Games Chronicle. In this in-game picture you can take a first look at the game’s main menu and find basically everything that can be expected from a “Games as a Service” title.
Besides options for choosing a mission, difficulty, game mode and matchmaking, fans were quick to root out the existence of a battle pass and an in-game store, as well as what seems to be almost six different currencies or counters. While it’s been stated that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is finishable while playing solo, everything seems to be inclined towards co-op online play and all sorts of updates and extra content drops to stretch the game’s lifespan indefinitely.
In VGC, it’s been reported that the store and microtransactions it entails will only be used to unlock cosmetic items, which could translate to outfits/skins for its playable characters (up until now: Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark and Captain Boomerang). They’ve also stated that the progression system doesn’t mean that the characters will start off weak or debuffed, “You just start off great and can get ridiculous, like Arkham Knight’s Batman.”
We’ll have to wait and see if Rocksteady comes out to explain the situation, if only to dissipate the fan’s fears of this becoming another “Marvel’s Avengers.” The company hasn’t released a new game since 2016 (and that was Batman: Arkham VR), and given the prestige they earned thanks to their Arkham Trilogy (Asylum, City, Knight) millions of fans have been eagerly waiting the release of this new project, for which we’ve only just got a trailer and release date in these past Game Awards.
As its name indicates, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League poses the opportunity of going head to head against the most powerful superheroes in the DC Universe while playing as a group of misfit villains. Very few people ever expected this would be possible, so we’ve been really excited, but this new development seems to have thrown a wrench directly into the hype.
