Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: Can you change the characters’ outfits in the game?

The heroes of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth get many costumes throughout the story, but can you choose what they wear at any given time?

Update:
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has just released, and yet images of the various characters in special outfits and costumes have flooded fan’s timelines, revealing that the gang will change into some amazing looks throughout the story. But will you be able to unlock them for regular use in normal gameplay?

Well, for those of you who are jumping into the game after FFVII Remake, you might remember that while Tifa, Aerith, and Cloud get some awesome optional outfits in the game, those were restricted to certain scenes and moments in the game, with no option to customize your characters’ visual aspects (at least not without PC mods). The good news is that in Rebirth, this is different.

Throughout your adventure, you’ll gather a variety of outfits for all of your party members, and even get a glimpse of how to change them to your liking: In Chapter 6 of the game, you’ll find changing rooms that let you choose unlocked swimsuits for Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith. However, to get the ability to change freely and go into the open world with those looks, you’ll need to beat the main story first.

How to unlock outfit changes in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Aside from the Costa del Sol swimsuit and summer looks, there are plenty of other unlockable looks to get in the game. But as mentioned above you’ll need to clear the main story first. Once you’ve beaten the main game, you get the chance to reload your last save and go back into the open world, which will let you tackle any side missions that are still incomplete, or simply keep exploring the world.

However, if you finished the game once already, you’ll be able to go into changing rooms in the different towns of the game to swap how your party looks. It’s not just the Costa del Sol ones, but basically any look that the characters get throughout the game.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is finally here

Thanks to Square Enix, we here at MeriStation also got to play Final Fantasy VII Rebirth ahead of its release. In our review we delved deep into the best parts of the game, but didn’t shy away from calling out some of the biggest issues with the title as well. We stated that “when Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is at its best, it shines brighter than many other titles currently on the market. Its production values are unimaginably high, with fantastic graphics and highly detailed models that beautifully render classic characters in a whole new light. Its combat is absolutely thrilling when it takes place in a well-paced dungeon, and the 4-act format to boss encounters is back to keep you on your toes with some of the most involved fights RPGs have ever had.”
