Joe Manganiello confirms Netflix’s ‘One Piece’ Season 3 filming starts this year
Alabasta could be Season 2’s cliffhanger into Season 3.

Joe Manganiello, who plays Mr. 0 (Crocodile) in Netflix’s ’One Piece’ live-action adaptation, has revealed that Season 3 is already in the works and will begin filming later this year. This confirmation has sparked excitement among fans, as Netflix has also renewed the series for both Season 3 and Season 4, ensuring that the adaptation will continue beyond its upcoming second season.
In a recent interview with Cinemablend, Manganiello shared his excitement about returning to set, stating:
“We’ve taken a break between Season 2 and Season 3, so yeah, I’ll be heading back later on this year, and we’ll be working on the next part of the story. So that’s about all I could say.”
His statement suggests that Netflix is moving full speed ahead with production, even though the platform has yet to officially announce Season 3.
With filming for Season 3 set to begin in late 2025, speculation is already swirling about when it could premiere. Given the production timeline of Season 2, which wrapped filming in early 2025 and is expected to release in late 2025 or early 2026, Season 3 could realistically arrive in late 2026 or 2027, assuming a similar schedule.
If Netflix maintains its momentum, Season 4 could follow in 2028 or even earlier, making ’One Piece’ one of Netflix’s longest-running live-action anime adaptations, quite ad hoc with one of the longest anime series of all time. How far will each season go in the story?
Netflix’s ’One Piece‘ has been adapting the manga at a steady pace, covering major arcs without rushing through the story. While Netflix has not officially confirmed which arcs Season 3 and 4 will cover, along with some of their cast; based on previous statements and the pacing of Season 1 and 2, here’s how things could unfold:
- Season 1 (2023) – Covered the East Blue Saga, ending with the Arlong Park arc.
- Season 2 (2025/2026) – Will adapt Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island, stopping just before Alabasta.
- Season 3 (2027, estimated) – Could cover Alabasta, introducing Vivi, Crocodile, and the Baroque Works conflict.
- Season 4 (2028, estimated) – Might move into Sky Island (Skypiea), bringing Eneru and the Shandians into the story.
This pacing suggests that Netflix is taking its time with the adaptation, ensuring that each arc gets the attention it deserves. While some fans hoped for a faster progression, the decision to split Alabasta into its own season would allow the showrunners to fully explore its political intrigue, battles, and character development.
Joe Manganiello’s confirmation that ’One Piece’ Season 3 is already in the works is a huge milestone for the series. With Netflix committing to at least four seasons, the live-action adaptation is shaping up to be a long-term project, potentially covering hundreds of episodes worth of manga content.
While fans will have to wait until 2027 or later for Season 3, the fact that Netflix is investing in multiple seasons suggests that the series has been a major success. While nothing is officially confirmed beyond Season 2, Alabasta seems like the next logical step, and Skypiea could follow.
