Nintendo Switch 2’s power is closer to Xbox Series S than PS4, says Koei Tecmo
Switch 2’s performance surprises developers, how powerful is it really?

The Nintendo Switch 2 has been the subject of much speculation regarding its performance, but according to Koei Tecmo, the console is closer to an Xbox Series S than a PlayStation 4 in terms of raw computing power.
What does this mean for Switch 2’s capabilities?
In an interview with wccftech, Takuto Edagawa, producer of Wild Hearts S, shared insights into the Switch 2’s hardware, stating that while it’s difficult to generalize, the console’s processing power aligns more with the Series S than the previous generation. This suggests several key improvements:
- Stronger third-party support – The Switch 2 could handle more demanding games, including titles previously exclusive to PlayStation and Xbox.
- Advanced graphical features – The console includes a custom Nvidia GPU with ray tracing and AI upscaling via DLSS, offering 10x the graphical performance of the original Switch.
- Improved multiplayer capabilities – Games like Wild Hearts S now support four-player online co-op, an upgrade from previous versions.
How does it compare to Xbox Series S?
While the Xbox Series S is still more powerful overall, the Switch 2’s advancements make it a huge leap forward from its predecessor. The Series S features a more robust CPU and GPU, but the Switch 2’s optimizations allow it to run modern games with fewer compromises.
Additionally, Microsoft’s Game Pass expansion and ongoing efforts to bring Call of Duty to Switch suggest that the Switch 2 could receive more AAA titles than the original.
The Switch 2’s power boost positions it as a strong competitor in the current console market, bridging the gap between Nintendo’s hybrid design and modern gaming expectations. While it may not match the Series X or PS5, its performance improvements could make it the most versatile Nintendo console yet.
