Players aren’t finishing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, but it doesn’t mean anything bad
Only 2.97% of Xbox players have finished Oblivion Remastered, but that’s actually a good thing.

Despite The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered being a massive hit, only a small percentage of players have completed the main questline. However, this isn’t necessarily a sign of trouble: it’s actually a testament to the game’s immersive world and endless side content.
Why aren’t players finishing the main story?
According to IGN, only 2.97% of Xbox players and 4.4% of Steam players have completed the main questline. But rather than indicating a lack of interest, this low completion rate is likely due to players getting sidetracked by the game’s rich open world.
Many players have shared their experiences online, explaining that they’re too busy exploring Cyrodiil, joining guilds, and tackling side quests to focus on the main storyline. One player even admitted to spending 160 hours hunting Slaughterfish instead of progressing the main quest.
Completion rates in open-world RPGs
Low completion rates aren’t unique to Oblivion Remastered. Many open-world RPGs, including Skyrim and The Witcher 3, see similar trends, as players often prefer to explore, experiment, and create their own adventures rather than rushing through the main story.
Additionally, since Oblivion Remastered is a revamped version of a beloved classic, many players already finished the original game years ago and are now revisiting it for nostalgia and exploration rather than completing the main quest again.
While Oblivion Remastered has a low main quest completion rate, this isn’t a sign of failure—it’s proof that the game’s world is so engaging that players are happily getting lost in it. Whether they’re closing Oblivion gates, joining guilds, or simply wandering Cyrodiil, players are enjoying the game on their own terms, which is exactly what makes Bethesda’s RPGs so special.
