The wildest secret in Oblivion Remastered: Todd Howard is in the game — and he can fall in love with you

The legendary director of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout has a surprise cameo.

Todd Howard en el documental de Oblivion

Video games are full of secrets, but Oblivion Remastered takes it to another level with one of the most surreal discoveries in recent memory: Todd Howard, the iconic Bethesda director and internet meme legend, is hidden in the game.

And not only can you talk to him: he can fall in love with you in seconds.

How to find Todd Howard in the game

Unlike typical Easter eggs, this one doesn’t require exploring dungeons or completing quests. Instead, players must:

  1. Open the console commands (PC version only).
  2. Type “coc toddtest” and press Enter.
  3. Teleport to a hidden test room from the original game.

Inside, you’ll find Alban Corinis, a character wearing Elven armor who seems ordinary at first glance. However, instead of a standard dialogue menu, you’ll be given emotion-based options: joy, anger, fear, sadness, surprise, and more.

Todd Howard’s voice lines from 20 years ago

Each emotion triggers voice lines recorded by Todd Howard during the development of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, over two decades ago.

Expect lines like:

  • “Oh no! What do we do? I’m so scared!”
  • “That makes me really angry!”

These recordings were originally internal tests for the game’s persuasion system, never meant for public release. Yet, they remain intact in the remaster, making for an unexpected time capsule.

Todd Howard can love (or insult) you

This secret interaction is both hilarious and bizarre.

  • Repeatedly selecting “happy” increases Alban Corinis’s disposition.
  • Once maxed out, selecting “neutral” prompts Todd Howard to say:“I don’t remember ever loving moments like this with you.”

Yes, the creator of Oblivion has just fallen for you.

Prefer a more aggressive Todd Howard?

  • Spam “angry” until his disposition drops to the lowest level.
  • The result? A memorable insult:“You are indeed a bastard.”

A hidden relic from Bethesda’s past

Although these lines aren’t new content, their presence in the remaster feels like a forgotten joke left in the code, a piece of Bethesda history preserved for posterity.

So now you know: Oblivion Remastered isn’t just about saving the Empire. You can also experience a brief, comedic love (or hate) story with Todd Howard.
