Update:

Tom Cruise made a surprise appearance at the London premiere of 'F1, the new racing drama starring Brad Pitt, and fans are already dreaming of a cinematic rematch. The two Hollywood icons hadn’t shared a red carpet since 1994, when they co-starred in 'Interview with the Vampire’. But this time, the reunion wasn’t about fangs, it was about fuel.

A reunion decades in the making

Cruise and Pitt embraced and posed for photos at the Cineworld Leicester Square, where 'F1′ —directed by 'Top Gun: Maverick’s’ Joseph Kosinski—, held its European debut. The moment was more than nostalgic: it was symbolic. Both actors are now headlining high-octane franchises, and both are working with Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

“Let’s run it back”: A crossover in the works?

Kosinski has openly floated the idea of a crossover sequel that would unite Pitt’s 'F1′ character, Sonny Hayes, with Cruise’s Cole Trickle from 'Days of Thunder’ (1990). In his words, it would be “a game of legacies: Trickle vs. Hayes, NASCAR vs. F1, the rough American vs. the sleek European”.

Cruise is reportedly in talks for 'Days of Thunder 2, while 'F1’s’ box office success could greenlight a sequel of its own. Kosinski’s dream? A cinematic collision course between the two racing legends.

Brad Pitt has expressed interest in working with Cruise again, but with one caveat. “Well, I’m not gonna hang my ass off airplane shit like that. When he does something on solid ground, we’ll talk,” he joked at the 'F1′ premiere, referencing Cruise’s penchant for death-defying stunts.

While nothing is confirmed, the stars are aligning, literally. With Kosinski at the helm, Cruise and Pitt back in the same orbit, and fans clamoring for a rematch, the idea of a 'Days of Thunder’/'F1′ crossover no longer feels like fantasy. It feels like a green flag waiting to drop.
