The MLB offseason continues with big movements between the different franchises, rumors and the names of the players who are available for free agency continue to appear.

But not only that, the teams know that they must keep hold of their most important players - the ones that have allowed them to fight for their place in the playoffs.

Through social media the Houston Astros revealed the names of the seven players to whom they offered contracts (tendered contracts) for the 2024 season who were eligible for arbitration. The list is made up of:

  • LD | Bryan Abreu
  • IF/OF | Mauricio Dubón
  • LD | Luis García
  • OF | Chas McCormick
  • OF | Kyle Tucker
  • LD | José Urquidy
  • LZ | Framber Valdez

So-called ‘Tendered Contracts’

This type of negotiation occurs when seeking to agree to give a contract to a player who is under the franchise’s control for the following season. Among the players on the 40-man roster who have been active in the major leagues for less than six years, they must receive an offer or they will be considered ‘non-tendered’ and will move on to free agency.

A total of six players fall into that category and are looking for new teams - one of them, Bligh Madris, is already on board with the Detroit Tigers. The others are: Michael Brantley, Hector Neris, Martin Maldonado, Ryne Stanek and Phil Maton.
