Mexico City Series 2024: When was the last time the Astros and Rockies came to Mexico?
A few years have passed since these two teams last appeared south of the Rio Grande. We take a look back at the details of their last trips to Mexico.
The countdown to the 2024 MLB Mexico Series has arrived and with it, the time to get the caps and gloves ready to experience two days of maximum excitement that the Show brings to the country’s capital. The passion and expectation, indeed the hunger of Mexican baseball fans to see the Houston Astros face the Colorado Rockies is insatiable!
With this in mind, and with this being the seventh regular season match that MLB brings to Mexico (five previous editions in Monterrey and last year history was made with the first regular season series played in Mexico City), the emotion of seeing both the Astros and the Rockies return to Aztec territory is indescribable.
That’s right! Houston and Colorado have played in Mexico before and this will mark their first time back in the country for several years. On the one hand we have the Astros who played an international series for the last time in 2019, (against the Los Angeles Angels) in Monterrey. Prior to that series, Houston also played in a series against the San Diego Padres in Mexico City back in 2016. However, these games were exhibition games, as were the ones played against the Florida Marlins in Mexico City in 2004.
Rockies, the first to play regular season in Mexico
The Rockies will make their first international trip since they faced the D-Backs in an exhibition series in Monterrey in 2019. However, Colorado actually played on Opening Day in 1999 in Monterrey against San Diego, and then again in 2001 in Culiacán, when they became the first Major League team to play a regular season game in Mexico.
