Misfortune and injuries have plagued Mike Trout’s career in Major League Baseball. The latest: Perry Minasian, the general manager of the Los Angeles Angels, announced that Trout will undergo surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his left knee.

The silver lining for the California organization is that the surgery is not anticipated to end the three-time American League MVP’s season. However, there are no estimated dates yet to outline his rehabilitation process.

The timing of the injury is particularly unfortunate as Trout leads the Major Leagues in home runs with 10, tied with Gunnar Henderson of the Baltimore Orioles. Additionally, the outfielder has a batting average of .220 after accumulating 24 hits in 109 at bats.

Injuries, a constant in Mike Trout’s career

Mike Trout has never played all 162 regular season games in a Major League season. His closest approaches were between 2013 and 2016, when he played 157, 157, 159, and 159 games, respectively.

Over the past four years, he has only been able to play in 266 games for the Angels. In May 2021, he was sidelined with a right calf injury. The 2022 season was disrupted by back issues. In July 2023, the player suffered a wrist fracture.
