Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos joins the MLB

Los Ángeles, California Update:

Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos traded the pitch for the mound—at least for a moment—on Wednesday, June 18, as he threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Dodger Stadium before the Los Angeles Dodgers took on the San Diego Padres.

“Excited” Ramos delivers first pitch before Dodgers vs. Padres

Currently in California with Mexican club Monterrey for the FIFA Club World Cup, Ramos took time out from his tournament duties to embrace one of America’s favourite pastimes. Wearing a full Dodgers uniform, the iconic defender stepped onto the mound to deliver the first pitch. “My first time—really happy, really excited,” he said after the throw, flashing a smile.

Ramos wasn’t alone for the occasion—his family joined him at the ballpark to soak in the experience. In a heartwarming gesture of cross-sport camaraderie, Dodgers infielder Enrique Hernández and Ramos swapped jerseys on the field, with Hernández receiving a Monterrey kit in return.

The 39-year-old veteran is enjoying a strong run of form since joining Monterrey at the beginning of 2025, following a nearly nine-month break from competitive play. Despite the time away, Ramos has quickly emerged as a leader and captain for the Liga MX side, even showing off his scoring touch.

In fact, he wasted no time making his mark at the Club World Cup. Ramos netted the equalizer in Monterrey’s opening match against Inter Milan, which ended in a 1-1 draw, and was later named MVP for his efforts.

Next up for Ramos and Monterrey: two crucial group stage matchups at the iconic Rose Bowl in Pasadena—first against Argentina’s River Plate on June 21, then Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds on June 25—as they look to punch their ticket to the knockout rounds.
