Shohei Ohtani is the superstar of Major League Baseball, bar none, and despite the Angels’ 10-9 loss to the lowly Royals, Shotime reached a milestone that only one of his countrymen has ever achieved on these shores.

Ohtani blasted a solo homer in the top of the seventh inning to straightaway center field, marking his 150th MLB home run. The two-way star emulated the great Hideki Matsui as only the second Japanese player to achieve that number of home runs in the Show.

The Los Angeles two-way phenom needed only 637 games to reach that mark. On this afternoon against the Royals, Ohtani finished the game 4-1 with two RBIs and a walk.

Ohtani, the home run leader

Ohtani’s home run was not only important among Japanese players, but also marked his 23rd home run of the current season, making him the league leader in home runs, surpassing the Mets’ Pete Alonso.

In addition to Ohtani and Alonso, Matt Olson of the Atlanta Braves and Jorge Soler of the Miami Marlins have hit over 20 home runs in the 2023 Major League Baseball season.
