Shohei Ohtani never tires of breaking records and the Japanese player set a new bar in the history of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

With his home run in the first inning against the Chicago White Sox, the Japanese hitter set the record for the most consecutive games with and RBI produced in the history of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Ohtani connected on a cutter from Erick Fedde and sent it 437 feet from the plate to drive it out to the right side of center field at Guaranteed Rate Field. With this homer, the three-time American League MVP reached 25 on the year.

Who held the previous RBI record?

The previous top tally was nine: as of yesterday Ohtani was tied with Eddie Brown (1924), Augie Galan (1944) and Roy Campanella (1955). According to MLB.com, Matt Kemp is also part of the record, but he accomplished the feat during the final games of the 2011 season and the first games of the 2012 season.

Ohtani’s streak began with two hits against the Kansas City Royals in the last of the series on June 16. Both runs came via solo home runs.

The Dodgers then played a four-game series against the Colorado Rockies and the mind-blowing streak continued with one in the first game, two in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth.

Ohtani faced the Angels for the first time after leaving them for the Dodgers in free agency and his streak continued thanks to home runs with which he was able to produce two runs in each of the games.

The string of games nearly culminated in the first of the series against the White Sox, but a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth kept it alive.
