Shohei Ohtani, victim of fraud according to federal authorities
Federal authorities have investigated the incident between the Japanese baseball player and his interpreter Ippei Mizuhara for three weeks.
Shohei Ohtani has been cleared from the illegal gambling controversy that engulfed him for the past three weeks by federal authorities. The New York Times has reported that Ippei Mizuhara, Ohtani’s former translator, will plea guilty to allegedly stealing the player’s money to place illegal gambling bets.
With this, the Dodgers player will remain as a victim of fraud before the authorities who carried out the investigation. The probe into Ohtani’s personal accounts was carried out by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) through its Los Angeles branch, the Department of Homeland Security and the of the U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California.
Federal authorities have looked into the relationship between the Japanese baseball player and his former translator for three weeks. Determining that 4.5 million dollars were stolen by Mizuhara, although a larger amount has been contemplated. In addition, it appears he manipulated the configuration of the baseball player’s bank account so that he did not receive notifications and would not suspect a thing.
