Mexico will get their WBC tournament opened by facing off against Colombia in Pool C. This is definitely the most dangerous of all the groups and while Mexico is widely picked to get through the group stage, they can not rest for even one second against a strong Colombian team.

Julio Urías will get the start on the bump for Mexico and the game will see a pitching duel in the opening innings as the Colombians will also bring a pretty big gun to the fight in Nabil Crismatt. But with the WBC’s strict pitch count limit, this will ultimately come down to the bullpen and in that, Mexico has the advantage.

A strong set of bats on both teams will see scoring, for sure, and good hitting always beats good pitching in the end. The Mexican lineup can be expected to feature the biggest hitters they have, and with only the top two teams in the group going through to the next round, nobody can afford to have an off day.

While the final roster will not be released until just before the game and will depend a lot on how the players feel, any nagging injuries, or what manager Benji Gil sees on the day. But here is a good approximation of what Mexico will look like.

Possible Mexico lineup

  1. Randy Arozarena, LF
  2. Alex Verdugo, RF
  3. Joey Meneses, 1B
  4. Rowdy Tellez, DH
  5. Isaac Paredes, 3B
  6. Austin Barnes, C
  7. Jonathan Aranda, 2B
  8. Alan Trejo, SS
  9. Alek Thomas, CF

There is power and speed up and down the lineup and a few decent players on the bench to boot. Jose Cardona, Jarren Duran, and Alexis Wilson are all available and able to add to this mix if needed.
