Vladimir Guerrero Jr secures monumental deal with the Toronto Blue Jays
The 26-year-old infielder has agreed a long-term extension, pending a medical. It will be the biggest contract in the franchise’s history.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr and the Toronto Blue Jays have reportedly agreed to a massive 14-year, $500 million contract extension. This deal, pending a medical, is set to begin in the 2026 season and will keep the 26-year-old infielder with the Blue Jays through 2039.
Guerrero’s salary after striking new deal
The contract includes no deferred money and ranks as one of the largest in MLB history. Guerrero’s average annual salary will be approximately $35.7 million.
The first baseman and the franchise entered negotiations last offseason but failed to reach an agreement at the time. As a result, Guerrero Jr. was set to become a free agent at the end of this season. Back in February, he stated that he planned to meet with all 30 teams to find a deal that would best align with his interests.

The Dominican-Canadian is one of the premier offensive players in Major League Baseball. Over his seven-year career in the MLB, he has amassed a WAR of 21.7, with a batting average of .288/.499/.862 and 160 home runs.
His standout season was in 2021 when he finished second in the race for American League MVP. That year, Guerrero set personal records across the board, including 48 home runs and 111 RBIs.
The Blue Jays have chosen to invest in the long-term future of Vladdy. However, the franchise has only reached the playoffs three times during his time with the team and has failed to advance past the Wild Card round on each occasion.
