Houston Astros’ pitcher Justin Verlander is back in the World Series, and fans are expecting to see more celebrations of him and his wife, Kate Upton, on the field together.

Upton and Verlander started dating in early 2014, when he was a Detroit Tigers baseball player. The couple then got engaged in 2016 and a year later they got married in Tuscany, Italy. They had their first daughter together in 2018.

Who is Upton and what does she do for a living?

Upton is an active American model who started her career in 2008, before she moved to New York and signed with IMG Models shortly after. She became one of the most in-demand models in the world, particularly after appearing on the cover of the annual Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue back in 2012.

The negative aftereffects of that cover, however, affected Upton and her confidence, as she was subjected to criticism and felt she had been objectified. She did bounce back in April 2014, and had her first movie appearance with Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in the comedy The Other Woman. She continued to appear in more movies like “Tower Heist” and “The Layover.”

Kate Upton’s career

In 2018, Upton, who was a key figure in fashion’s #MeToo movement, went public for being sexually harassed by Guess cofounder Paul Marciano during her first modeling job when she was just 18 years old. This led to an internal investigation into several women’s claims and his eventual resignation as executive chairman.

Earlier in 2021, Upton developed a 12-week at-home workout program, Strong4Me, created alongside her personal trainer Ben Bruno. She also launched a beauty line in partnership with Found Active, a wellness, cosmetics and skin care brand.

In 1999, the now 30-year-old was a young equestrian who competed at the national level winning championships, including three APHA Reserve World Championships – 13 and Under Western Riding, 13 and Under Horsemanship, and 14–18 Western Riding. She also comes from an athletic family; her mother was a former Texas state champion and her dad was a high school athletics director.
