Update:

Heading into Game 6 of the 2025 World Series, with the title on the line, the Toronto Blue Jays have opted to honour a familiar face and bolster Canadian pride.

Former Blue Jays outfielder Devon White will perform the ceremonial first pitch, while veteran vocalist David Grenon, a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force Band, is set to deliver the Canadian national anthem in both English and French.

A key player in the Blue Jays’ early-90s success, White’s involvement adds a nostalgic touch to a high-stakes evening. Meanwhile, the choice of Grenon signals respect for Canada’s bilingual traditions and honours the national stage the Blue Jays now occupy.

Rufus Wainwright stumbles through Game 5

Both a trained musician and a decorated airman, Grenon has spent years representing Canada through music. He’s performed at high-profile military ceremonies, government events, and sports arenas across the country.

He’s also bilingual, which should avoid any backlash like we saw with the Game 5 singer, Rufus Wainwright, who controversially changed the lyrics to “O Canada” in his recent rendition.

During his performance, Wainwright made a subtle but noticeable alteration: in the English portion, he sang “that only us command” instead of the standard “in all of us command," sparking a social media outrage. Fans also noted stumbles in the French segment of the anthem, which added further scrutiny to the performance.
