Three-game competition

For the second consecutive year, the players have been divided into four teams and will participate in a three-game mini-tournament. The matches won’t be timed: instead the teams have a target score to reach, and whoever gets to it first via a free throw or a made basket will win the game.

In Games 1 and 2- also called the semifinal games- the target score is 40. The winners of those matches will move on to the finals, where the target score will be 25.

  • Game 1: Team A vs. Team B (target score: 40)
  • Game 2: Team C vs. Team D (target score. 40)
  • Game 3: Finals between winners of Games 1 and 2 (target score: 25)

The three teams composed of NBA rookies and sophomores are named after their honorary head coaches: NBA All-Stars Pau Gasol, Noah Joakim, and Deron Williams.

The three chose their players during the Rising Stars Draft, with each one selecting seven to make up their rosters. Team Pau got first pick overall and acquired Paolo Banchero of the Orlando Magic. The G League team had been determined previously, and will be coached by Utah Jazz assistant coach Jason Terry.
