Update:

The Dallas Mavericks have signed forward P.J. Washington to a new, $90 million extension that spans four seasons, according to ESPN.

The outlet reports that, along with Anthony Davis, Cooper Flagg, and Dereck Lively II, the Mavs now “have arguably the best frontcourt in the league.”

The 27-year-old had one season left on his previous deal with the Mavericks, which was worth $14.1 million; Washington is also now ineligible to be traded during the 2025-26 season.

Local media outlet Dallas Hoops Journal report that “the deal does not include any options and represents the maximum amount Washington was eligible to sign.”

The report adds that the extension — which sees him tied to the franchise until 2029-30 instead of entering free agency next year — “begins at $19.8 million in the first year — the maximum allowed 140% increase off his $14.1 million salary for 2025–26 — and climbs to $24.6 million in the final season."

What is P.J. Washington’s record with the Dallas Mavericks?

Washington was the 12th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Kentucky, and was signed by the Charlotte Hornets. He spent over four years there before joining the Mavericks at the NBA trade deadline in February 2024.

In the 2024–25 NBA regular season, P.J. Washington delivered a strong all-around performance for the team, averaging 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while logging about 32.2 minutes per contest.
