Dennis Schroder’s shocking statement about the trade deadline backfires
Dennis Schroder had some harsh words for the league and it’s trade deadline. Those came before he was traded four times in less than 24 hours.

Just a day after blasting the NBA’s trade deadline, Dennis Schroder had a historic day that saw him join four different teams in a span of 24 hours. With the clock hitting midnight on the NBA’s trade deadline, it looks like the German will be spending the rest of the season with the Detroit Pistons.
NBA needs to change that, says Schroder
“It’s like modern slavery,” Schroder said. “It’s modern slavery at the end of the day. Everybody can decide where you’re going, even if you have a contract. Yeah, of course, we make a lot of money and we can feed our families, but at the end of the day if they say, ‘You’re not coming to work tomorrow, you’re going over there,’ they can decide that. They got to change that a little bit.”
These statements were made in the wake of the Luka Doncic trade that sent shockwaves around the league. There was a resounding sentiment from superstars to bench warmers that on one is safe in the NBA anymore. The irony is not lost when you consider that Schroder has been traded not once, not twice, not three times, but four times since since told the media that just a couple days ago.
Schroder back tracks a bit
The Golden State Warriors, beat the Orlando Magic earlier this week. That would be his last game as a part of the Warriors. In the last 24 hours he was traded to the Heat in the Jimmy Butler mega-deal, then Miami sent him to Utah, and finally Utah dealt him to Detroit.
Anytime you compare a job to slavery, especially when it’s such a high profile, high paying job like playing in the NBA, there is always going to be backlash. Schroder made an attempt to sugarcoat his statements by adding that everyone who is in the NBA is blessed, but the team-first mentality isn’t always a two way street.
“Everybody who’s in here is blessed.” He added that he is “grateful that we’re here and that we can live this every day.” He added, though, that it’s “kind of crazy that the organization can tell you, ‘We want you to be team-first, but you’re going over there.’ It’s a lot.”
