The NBA had taken a long time to announce the results of this year’s MVP award. In addition to SGA, Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks were also in contention.
Gilgeous-Alexander finished second to Jokic in last year’s voting and now takes top spot for himself. This is the seventh consecutive season in which a non-American player has won the award for the league’s best player. In addition to Gilgeous-Alexander, Jokic and Antetokounmpo, the 2023 award was given to Cameroonian star Joel Embiid.
