Giannis Antetokounmpo on trade talks: “It doesn’t affect my work”
The Milwaukee Bucks star is recovering from a right calf strain and has not played since December 3.
The future of Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo remains a contentious issue, even while he continues his recovery from injury.
Antetokounmpo has not featured for Milwaukee since straining his right calf on December 3. Reports suggest that Antetokounmpo’s representatives have met with the Bucks in recent weeks to discuss a potential trade away from the team.
The ‘Greek Freak’ has been with the Bucks since being drafted in 2011, picking up two NBA Most Valuable Player awards and leading the team to a first championship in 47 years. Despite growing talk of a trade, Giannis distanced himself from the discussions.
“If my agent is talking to the Bucks about it, he’s his own person. He can have any conversation he wants,” Antetokounmpo told reporters on Thursday.
“At the end of the day, I personally have not had the conversation with the Bucks. I’m still locked in, locked in on my teammates, most importantly locked in on me getting back healthy.”
“It doesn’t affect my work,” he insisted. “It doesn’t affect my relationship with my teammates, it doesn’t affect my relationship with my coach. It doesn’t affect my relationship with the GM. So, it doesn’t really bother me because they know what I’m about.”
Since that championship-winning 2021 season the Bucks have struggled to make an impression in the postseason. Milwaukee have won just one playoff game in the past four seasons, a barren run that may leave Antetokounmpo wondering if he needs to reconsider his prospects with the team.
