Gregg Popovich out indefinitely: What we know about San Antonio Spurs’ coach’s health situation
The Spurs announce that their coach, Gregg Popovich, is out of daily operations with the franchise due to an undisclosed health problem.

One of the oldest coaches in the NBA, the legendary Gregg Popovich, will be out for an indefinite period of time due to undetermined health problems. The San Antonio Spurs, the franchise with which he has been head coach since 1996 and with which he has won the League on five occasions (1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014), has announced that the coach is out of the team’s discipline indefinitely, without further specification, and that assistant Mitch Johnson will assume the position as interim until the situation is resolved.

Popovich feeling “under the weather”
The 75-year-old Indiana native did not travel with the team on its road trip to face the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night, followed by a matchup against the Houston Rockets on Wednesday. The Spurs host the Portland Trail Blazers at the Frost Bank Center on Thursday.
Alarm bells went off last Saturday night before the Spurs’ game against the Timberwolves. The official word given to commentators covering the game was that Popovich was “under the weather”, meaning he was taken down with a fever and unable to oversee his team.
Popovich has spent 30 years with the Spurs, overseeing 2,209 games with a record of 1,388 wins and 821 losses (.628). He has guided the team to five championship rings (1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2014) and been crowned NBA Coach of the Year three times (2003, 2012, 2014)
