Hornets star recalls nearly being struck by bullets in fatal shooting
Brandon Miller of the Charlotte Hornets was playing for the University of Alabama when bullets were fired into his car.
The murder trial of Michael Lynn Davis began this week, charged with the shooting of Jamea Harris in January 2023. On Thursday Charlotte Hornets star Brandon Miller testified in court, revealing that he had nearly been shot.
Miller, formerly a friend of Davis’, is appearing as a witness for the prosecution. Davis and Darius Miles, a former teammate of Miller’s at the University of Alabama, were arrested and charged in relation to the killing.
The Hornets star has not been accused of any wrongdoing in the case, but was quizzed on his recollection of January 15, 2023. Miller had initially planned to go to a bar with both Davis and Miles and later drove the latter’s gun to the scene.
He has repeatedly insisted that he had no idea that it was going to be used that fateful night. However while Miller waited in the car alongside former coach Cooper Lee the two men heard nearby shots. Soon after, Davis is alleged to have fired two bullets into Miller’s car, almost hitting the Hornets prospect.
Dashcam footage from inside the vehicle seems to corroborate Miller’s story. The video seems to show Davis running away after firing the shots, while one of the men in the car can be heard saying: “Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God.”
Miller’s testimony could prove crucial in the case as a witness who was previously a close associate of Davis. On Thursday he testified that he had known the accused “ever since I got to Bama” and they spent a lot of time together.
Miller is one of four former members of the Alabama men’s basketball program to appear on the case witness list. If he is found guilty of murder, Davis could face life in prison.
