Heat to honor Dwyane Wade with a statue

If it wasn’t already clear, Dwyane Wade is one of the best to ever play for the Miami Heat and the NBA as a whole. To that end, it comes as no surprise that the franchise is now set to honor one of its greatest-ever players during the 2024-25 NBA season.

According to an official announcement, the Miami Heat will unveil a statue of Wade outside of the Kaseya Center on the evening of Sunday, October 27th. As per reports, the unveiling will include other festivities such as a musical performance by the Miami-based and Grammy-nominated rapper, Rick Ross. It is understood that the Heat will also be hosting a ceremonial Dwyane Wade Statue Night during their home game against the Detroit Pistons on October 28th, during which Wade will reportedly address those in attendance at halftime. There are also video tributes that will be on show throughout the night.

Where details are concerned, Wade’s bronze statue was created by Omri Amrany and Oscar Leon of Rotblatt Amrany Studio. If that name sounds familiar, it’s probably because that’s the same art studio that was responsible for the now iconic “Michael Jordan Spirit” statue in Chicago, as well as the “Black Mamba” statue which honors Kobe Bryant, and the “Kobe and Gianna Bryant Memorial Statue.”

As for Wade himself, what more can be said about a player who has won three NBA titles, featured in the All-Star Game on 13 occasions, and is today, a Hall of Famer? Across a career that spanned 16 years, Wade played for the Miami Heat before joining the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers for a short time and then finally returning to the Heat where he ended his time in the league in 2018-19. Needless to say, the statue that will be unveiled in October is a fitting way to recognize one of Miami’s most cherished sons.
