Update:

Veteran star Chris Paul is set to retire at the end of the 2025/26 season after a thinly-veiled post on social media hinted at retirement.

On Saturday morning Paul wrote: “What a ride...Still so much left...GRATEFUL for this last one!!

The 40-year-old is now in his 21st season in the NBA, playing with the LA Clippers. A 12-time All-Star, Paul was named a member of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team and is the active leader for both assists and steals. Only John Stockton is ahead of him in NBA history.

Paul’s retirement had been expected in recent weeks, with ESPN reporting that he is preparing to call time on his incredible playing career.

Nicknamed ‘the Point God,’ Paul has been one of the defining players of the modern NBA but has never won a championship. He was a star for the Clippers from 2011-2017, a key force in the ‘Lob City’ era as part of a fast-paced offense. Paul returned to the Clippers over the 2025 offseason but the early signs have not be promising.

The Clippers began the season with a 4-11 record ahead of Saturday’s trip to the Charlotte Hornets. Paul, who went to school at Wake Forest, will return to his hometown state to take on Charlotte.
