Update:

We all remember the image of a young Luka Doncic meeting Lakers legend Kobe Bryant for the first time. Now it’s time for Luka to make his mark on Lakers history, and owner Jeanie Buss knows Kobe is fully on board with the trade as he looks down on Lakers games.

Mamba mentality lives

It’s been just over four years since Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gigi and seven others died in a tragic helicopter accident in Southern California. The spirit of Kobe and the Mamba Mentality is still present in a league full of players that grew up watching the Lakers great play, and now one of those youngsters who was raised watching Kobe is ready to take the torch in LA.

Luka was traded to the Lakers in a shocking over night trade that shook the structure of the NBA to the core. Owner Jeanie Buss talked about the offer she couldn’t refuse on the Rich Eisen Show before the Lakers took on the Mavs on Tuesday night. “In my position, when you see certain players in the league and you think there’s no way I’ll ever have that player on my team. Like it’s just impossible, unless you draft a star like that, they usually don’t move.”

LeBron James is and has been the face of the Lakers since he came to the City of Angels seven years ago. LeBron was the star they had been missing since Kobe retired. Now Doncic is line to take the throne once LeBron retires, and LeBron has seemingly given his stamp of approval.

Luka was Gigi’s favorite player

Unfortunately Kobe isn’t here to give his stamp of approval, but Jeanie Buss told Eisen that just weeks before their tragic passing, Kobe and Gigi were in attendance for a Mavs game, and they wanted to see one player in particular.

“The last time I saw Kobe alive was about a month before he passed, and he had brought Gigi to the Lakers game to see Luka play. Luka was Gigi’s favorite player…. The idea that Luka is now a Laker, I know how happy that would make Kobe and Gigi” said Buss.

LeBron and Luka have reignited the excitement in Los Angeles, and now they will be aiming for bringing an 18th NBA title to Laker nation. They are off to a great start, and will only get better as time goes on.
