The defending champions were on the verge of going 3-0 down in the series but managed to pull out a win. With a lot of work still to be done, the focus now shifts to Sunday night when they will be looking to tie the series. Of course, that’s going to be easier said than done against a Kings team that’s proving they belong among the best.

Kings vs Warriors: The lay of the land

On Thursday night, the Warriors managed to save themselves a real problem by getting the win in Game 3. With that, the series now stands at 2-1 in Sacramento’s favor meaning the Dubs will be aiming to tie the series while they still enjoy home court advantage. Indeed, that’s been the theme of this series so far. Of course, if they are to do that, it will require another massive game from the team’s biggest star, Steph Curry, who put 36 points on the board in the last game, along with six rebounds. There’s also Draymond Green who will return to the lineup after he missed Game 3 following his Game 2 suspension for stomping on Domantas Sabonis’ chest. Expect this one to be lit.

The Kings are still in this

It’s clear that the Kings have got game, but if they are going to get anything out of this it’s going to depend on their ability to get more out of rookie forward Keegan Murray. In the three games that have been played so far, Murray has scored just 10 points, which is simply not enough for a player that was averaging 12.2 points per game during the season. Is it newbie nerves? Who’s to say, but the reality is it’s a case of now or never for both he and the team.

“It’s difficult, especially for a rookie playing big minutes for us all season,” Kings guard De’Aaron Fox said of Murray’s play in the postseason. “I mean, he broke the 3-point record for a reason. So we know he’s skilled. We know he can play. Obviously, the physicality and everything has risen, the intensity of the game has risen. He struggled a bit, but for us, we want him to get going. We’re not going to take that away from him.”

Back to business for the Dubs

The fascinating thing about the Warriors is that they are quite literally their own worst enemy. On any given day, there is no team that can beat Golden State, but when they aren’t focused on their game they can be prone to sloppy, careless play on both a team and individual level. Simply put, they need to care the ball and maintain their calm, especially Draymond Green. Indeed, that will be a major objective for the Steve Kerr’s men with Green likely to be motivated after serving his suspension. They just need him to maintain composure, rather than getting involved in unnecessary conflict.

Kings vs Warriors: The Prediction

In truth, the Warriors have been more or less unbeatable at home. With that in mind, it’s highly unlikely that’s about to change. Add to that Draymond Green’s aforementioned return to the team and you’ve got yourself a situation which is going to be very difficult for the Kings to overcome. We’re going with a Warriors win which means we’re heading back to Sacramento at 2-2.
