Kyrie Irving’s sneakers against the Celtics in the 2024 NBA Finals: Brand, price and meaning
The Mavericks are currently behind against the Celtics and need players such as Irving to step up their game.
The fifth-seeded Dallas Mavericks need to step up their game if they are to overcome the top-seeded Celtics in game 2 of the NBA Finals (Sunday, June 9, 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.). The Mavs go into the tie following a 107-89 loss to the Boston side, who will have all the confidence in the world as they look to extend their lead and win a record-breaking ring.
While Luka Doncic, has been the hero for Dallas in the postseason, Kyrie Irving has certainly been helping out during various moments, leading to LeBron James commenting that he is “f*cking mad” he doesn’t get to play with the point guard anymore.
Taking a closer look at Kyrie’s shoes
Apart from hitting the headlines for helping propel the Mavericks to a NBA Championship finals, the 32-year-old is also generating notoriety for his footwear in the two games against the Timberwolves.
Following his split-up with Nike in late 2022, the Australian born player signed a deal with Chinese sport shoes brand Anta and in the Western Conference finals turned heads with the “Chief Hélà” colourway of his signature Anta KAI 1 sneaker.
The shoe features a distinctive moccasin style brown and includes a yellow sole with eye-catching fringe detailing on the back with the shoe being a tribute to his Native American heritage. Irving’s mother, Elizabeth Larson, was of Standing Rock Sioux heritage, and both his grandparents and great-grandparents were from the Standing Rock reservation in South Dakota.
Chief Hélà is also the 32-year-olds handle for his Twitter/X account.
The Anta Kai 1 ‘Chief Hélà’ is expected to get a general release later this summer and expected to carry a retail price of $125. The game between the Mavericks and the Celtics will be played at TD Garden, in Boston, on Sunday, June 9, with tip-off at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.
