If you are tired of hearing about the Luka Doncic trade, tough cookies. Headlines continue to pour in from one of the most astonishing midseason deals to ever go down in the NBA, and this is the latest nugget of news from the Dallas Mavs former majority owner of the Mavs Marc Cuban.

Cuban confusion

Once the smoke settled and we picked our jaws up off the floor, we starting looking for responses from a few different people. The obvious one was Luka Doncic, who took a little time before releasing a statement thanking fans. We heard from LeBron James, but mostly thanking Anthony Davis for his time in LA.

Then heard from Mavs general manager Nico Harrison, even if there was a large portion of the Dallas area uninterested in his explanations. In his tell post-trade presser, he made it clear that this was a solo deal that he put his neck on the line for and didn’t inform anyone of what was going on internally, not even coach Jason Kidd.

Former Dallas Maverick told the Run It Back show on Fan Duel TV that he texted minority owner Marc Cuban after the trade was announced. “I’m so confused” he told Cuban, to which the Shark Tank judge contested “That makes two of us.”

Cuban no longer in the loop

Parsons played for Cuban and the Mavs from 2014-16 while “Cubes” was majority owner of Dallas. From 2000 to 2023 the outspoken businessman was the absolute authority of the Mavs but he sold 73% of the team to new owners and lost his ability to make decisions within the team.

The new ownership group came in and watched Luka Doncic, who was Cuban’s pick back in the 2018 NBA Draft, take Dallas to the NBA Finals. Apparently that wasn’t enough to convince the GM Harrison that Doncic should stay around for the long term future.
