Memphis Grizzlies could trade Ja Morant: Contract length, salary details

The Memphis Grizzlies have struggled for form in 2025/26 and could listen to offers for talisman Ja Morant as the trade deadline approaches.

ESPN reports that there are multiple teams considering Morant for a possible trade. Morant was the No. 2 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft and has been a two-time All-Star selection during his time in Memphis.

Now 26, there is a sense that the Grizzlies could be tempted to cash in on Morant if a package including draft picks or young players can be agreed. This is the first time that the Grizzlies have actively engaged with teams looking to trade Morant, reports suggest.

What is Ja Morant’s salary, contract length?

When Ja Morant signed with the Grizzlies in 2019 he was handed a four-year rookie deal worth $39.6 million. Since then Morant’s performances, and the team’s general improvement, have seen him rewarded with more lucrative deals.

Ahead of the 2023 season Morant signed a huge five-year contract extension with the Grizzlies, with a total value of $197.2 million. This summer he will be eligible for a three-year, $178 million extension but Memphis may be doubting his long-term value to the team.

A series of injuries and a one-game suspension have limited Morant to 18 appearances in the team’s first 37 games. He is still averaging 19.0 points and 7.6 assists, but his shooting has dropped to a career-low 40.1%.

That suspension came after he clashed with coach Tuomas Iisalo, telling reporters to ‘Go ask the coaching staff’ when asked why the team were struggling. So far this season the Grizzlies have a better record without Morant than they do with him, leaving them to seriously consider a trade for the franchise’s stand-out talent.
