Update:

The New Orleans Pelicans have found their next head coach. According to a report from Shams Charania, New Orleans is hiring Jamahl Mosley on a five-year contract, bringing in a respected voice with a strong track record in player development.

Who is Jamahl Mosley?

Mosley, 47, most recently served as head coach of the Orlando Magic, where he spent five seasons guiding a young, rebuilding roster.

He finished his tenure with a 189-221 record and led Orlando to three consecutive playoff appearances from 2023–2026, helping turn the franchise from a 20-win team into a consistent postseason participant.

While the Magic were unable to advance past the first round, Mosley earned praise around the league for his ability to develop young talent, most notably helping shape a rising core into a competitive group.

Why the Pelicans made the move

The Pelicans have a roster built around young stars and upside, making Mosley a logical fit. His reputation as a culture-builder and developmental coach aligns with the team as they continue to try and maximize their potential and take the next step in the Western Conference.

Mosley also brings extensive experience as an assistant prior to his Orlando tenure, with stops across multiple organizations dating back to 2005.

Rather than going with a veteran, win-now name, the Pelicans are investing in a coach known for growth, structure and long-term development. If Mosley can replicate the progress he oversaw in Orlando, this could be a pivotal move for the Pelicans as they try to reestablish themselves in the playoff picture. For Mosley, it’s also a quick return to the sidelines and a chance at a fresh start with a new core.
