The 2025 NBA Draft Lottery is set for this Monday to determine the order of the draft, which will take place in June following the end of playoffs.

The 2025 NBA Draft Lottery will take place on Monday, May 12 for the 40th straight year. The lottery will determine the order of selection for the 2025 NBA Draft in June. There will be random drawings to determine the first four picks in the draft, using 14 ping pong balls numbered 1 through 14. After the fourth, the rest of the teams will make their draft selections according to their regular-season records from 2024, in descending order.

The NBA has been using this method since 1985, when Patrick Ewing was the prized prospect of the draft. The system has since been tweaked many times, most recently in 2019 when the league altered how the odds are weighted at the top of the lottery in an attempt to keep teams from purposely tanking in order to get a better draft pick.

Which teams will take part in the 2025 Draft Lottery?

This year’s prized prospect is Duke’s Cooper Flagg, and there are 14 teams who could realistically snag him, as only the 14 NBA teams that didn’t make it into the playoffs can participate in the lottery.
