This is Sophie Cunningham, the WNBA player with the most coveted memorabilia, even more than Caitlin Clark
Since moving to the Indiana Fever earlier this year the 28-year-old guard has become one of the most talked-about players in the league.
There is an Indiana Fever star making waves in the world of WNBA memorabilia, but it’s not the one that you might expect.
Since joining the league Catilin Clark has been a phenomenon, both in terms of her on-court performances and the legion of fans that she draws. But a recent report from Yahoo! Sports found that Clark was second to teammate Sophie Cunningham when it comes to shirt sales.
On the Fanatics website, three of the top six most popular items of Fever clothing bare the name ‘Cunningham’ while only one has ‘Clark’. The most popular Cunningham items are two leisurewear t-shirts and one ‘Indiana Fever Nike Explorer Name & Number T-Shirt’.
Cunningham has been in the WNBA since being drafted by the Pheonix Mercury in 2019 and she gained greater fame while working as an analyst for the Phoenix Suns on their 'Suns Live!’ television show. But her sudden burst in celebrity can be traced back to her trade to the Fever in January 2025, teaming up with the most famous player in the WNBA.
Playing alongside Clark she has been exposed to a huge television audience and has been involved in a massive viral moment while defending the superstar.
Cunningham has gained a reputation as Clark’s ‘enforcer’ for the Fever owing to an incident against the Connecticut Sun. After Clark was poked in the eye by Sun player Jacy Sheldon, Cunningham took matters into her own hands and threw Sheldon to the floor later in the game.
Cunningham was ejected for the incident but the footage went viral and Cunningham’s social media accounts were swamped with new followers. Soon after, sales of her jersey and other forms of memorabilia sky-rocketed and they remain among the most coveted in the league.
It extends to collectible playing cards, too. Back in April Sports Illustrated reported that the price of Cunningham’s 2021 Panini Prizm WNBA “Rookie” Silver had increased by 189%. Many many of her most expensive card sales of all-time happened within months of signing with the Fever.
