The Miami Heat are on the verge of getting a big boost for the rest of their NBA Finals games against the Denver Nuggets, but could have to wait until at least Game 4 to the return of guard Tyler Herro.

After suffering a fracture in his hand in Game 1 of the playoffs against the Milwaukee Bucks, Herro had to get surgery on the third and fourth metacarpals in his right hand.

The Heat shooting guard was originally ruled out for 4-6 weeks, but the injury has taken longer than expected to heal. Miami coach Erik Spoelstra gave an progress report on Tyler Herro’s hand at a press conference.

“I don’t want to be Nostradamus right now, but we’re taking it one day at a time. He hasn’t been released, so that’s the situation, but we’re excited with the progress he’s making” said Spoelstra.

The coach also stated that the shooting guard will go through a full contact practice this Tuesday in order to have a better perspective of where Herro,, the best Sixth Man of the 2021-22 season, is in his rehabilitation.

Since the operation, the Miami medical team expected Herro's absence to be six weeks and since May 23, he has been able to train with his teammates to a lesser extent.

He has been practicing with the team since May 23rd but avoiding contact to keep from aggravating his hand. He has even been seen warming up before the Heat’s last few games, but his return date still remains a mystery.

Tyler Herro Stats in the Regular Season

The 2022-23 season was the best of Herro’s career as he started all 67 games he played and recorded his first triple double in the NBA. The Kentucky graduate posted averages of 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists in 34.9 minutes on the floor.
