The NBA All-Star game is back with a new format. After undergoing several changes since the inaugural All-Star game in 1951, the 2025 event will be a mini-tournament with four teams competing in two semifinals with the winners advancing to the final.

Chase Center in San Francisco, home to the Golden State Warriors, will stage this year’s All-Star game, which takes place on Sunday 16 February.

NBA All-Star game: who can vote?

As always, the All-Star players will be selected by votes compiled from polls involving members of the media, NBA players and the fans.

In fact the fans will have the biggest say in who takes part as their votes account for 50% of the total while with the players' and press votes will account for 25% each.

All will cast their ballots for their five starters: three frontcourt players and two guards - ie. a maximum of 10 players: five from the West Conference and five from the East.

How to vote for

NBA All Star rosters

Multiple voting is allowed, so fans can submit one full ballot every day while the voting period is open. Fans can cast their vote either online via the official NBA website or via the NBA app. The NBA App can be downloaded for free from the App Store (on iOS devices), and Google Play (on Android devices).

There will be also be 3-for-1 voting days when votes will be worth triple: Friday 10 January 10, Friday 17 January and Monday 20 January (from 12 a.m. ET until 11:59:59 p.m. ET).

Fan voting for the 2025 NBA All Star game opened at 12 noon on Thursday 19 December 2024 and is open to anyone in the United States or Canada with an NBA ID account (you will need to sign up to create a free account - available everywhere in the world apart from China and Japan).

The voting period will close at 11:59 p.m. on Monday 20 January 2025.

All fans who take part in voting will enter a sweepstakes with one entry per person (ie. multiple votes still only count as one entry). A winner will be selected on Wednesday 22 January for the grand prize: a 3-4-day, all expenses paid trip to San Francisco plus two tickets to the 2025 NBA All-Star. The prize includes transport (flights) and accommodation (hotel) costs.

Fan voting updates will be given on the first three Thursdays in January (2nd, 9th and 16th). According to the first update, Giannis Antetokounmpo has polled the most votes with 1,710,630, followed by Nikola Jokic with 1,422,121 and Jayson Tatum with 1,385,851.
