The Warriors and Mavericks put on a show never witnessed before in NBA history at San Francisco’s Chase Center last night. The two teams put on a authentic spectacle for the senses in which the Texans were the ones who ended with smiles on their faces.

They have won 12 of the last 14 games, only slipping up against the Heat and the Thunder - a run which keeps Jason Kidd’s team in their best form of the season - and ready to set new records like they did on Sunday.

The two teams set a new record for three-pointers converted in an single NBA game. A total of 95 were attempted, 48 of which entered.

For the Warriors, 27 from 54 (50%) and for the Mavs, 21 from 41 attempts (51%). And making the figure even more outstanding, the players who contributed the most to it were the formerly known ‘Splash Brothers’, now separated: Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, with seven each. The scoreboard read 133-143 on the buzzer.

Klay Thompson back in the hood

Thompson was making his second visit to his former home. On the first visit, with an exceptional display to celebrate his arrival, he looked a little overwhelmed and nervous - as he himself admitted afterwards. However on this occasion, any jitters evaporated.

Fans in California still hold him in high regard, and this time he was able to play his game to the fullest. In fact, he was absolutely key to Dallas leaving the arena with a victory.

The Warriors found it impossible to stop the breakaways created by their rivals, but they held their own until the final minutes. It was the best night for the trio of Doncic, Irving and Thompson, with 95 points in total, which proves that great things can and do happen on the biggest of stages.

The visitors had Luka Doncic as their best player - 45 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists. A new triple-double, the 80th of his career, in just 38 minutes and with a shot selection that set an example for the others: 16/23 in total, with six threes out of eleven attempts, plus 7/9 from the free throw line. Sometimes the Slovenian’s numbers go unnoticed due to the frequency with which he achieves them - but this was not one of them.

The Mavericks came out on top, and they forced the perimeter shooting frenzy, which kept them immersed in the whole game and they ended up struggling to get through the tough competition. A first quarter of 46 points was simply the start of hostilities, which did not stop until the last two minutes.

What was the previous record or the most three-pointers in a single NBA game?

The previous record of 44 combined three-pointers in a single game was set in the Sacramento Kings' 176–175 win against the Los Angeles Clippers on 23 February 2023 - and equaled last Friday when the Suns and the Jazz fired in 22 threes each in Phoenix’s 134-126 win.

The league record for the most three-pointers made by one team in a single game is shared by two teams - the Boston Celtics and the Milwaukee Bucks both hit 29.

Milwaukee set the record in 2020 and the C’s matched it in their 132-109 victory over the New York Knicks in October 2024.

It shows that teams are increasing their three-point shooting rates. This season, the attempt rate stands at 37.5 per game, up from 35.1 last season.
