The Phoenix Suns may have to do without their star guard Devin Booker in their next game against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Booker: Confirmed hamstring strain

An MRI has confirmed that the 25-year-old has suffered a mild strain on his right hamstring. He sustained the injury during Game 2 against the Pelicans on Tuesday.

He racked up 31 points in the first half of the game, but they eventually lost to New Orleans, 125-114. He appeared to injure his hamstring after a jump against center Jaxson Hayes in the third quarter.

There is no timetable yet for the return of the shooting guard, but he is likely to miss Games 3 and 4 of their first-round playoff series.

The Suns will probably feel the three-time All-Star’s absence- they went 8-6 without him this season. Considered to be a serious contender for this year’s MVP earlier in the season, he has led the top-seeded Suns with an average of 26.8 points per game. He is the only player in the team with a game point average of more than 20.

Booker’s history of hamstring harm

Booker has been plagued by hamstring injuries for the past two years. During the 2020-21 regular season, he missed four games after hurting his left hamstring, then he missed seven games after straining the same hamstring in November last year.

The Phoenix Suns travel to New Orleans on Friday, April 22 for Game 3 of their first-round playoff series at Smoothie King Center. Tip-off is at 9:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. PT.
