Who represents each team in the 2023 NBA Draft lottery?
It’s time for the 2023 NBA Draft Lottery and with that we’re taking a look at who will be representing each and every team during Tuesday night’s event.
With a shot at landing the No. 1 overall draft pick at stake, the Western Conference Finals will take a momentary backseat on Tuesday night, with the NBA’s Draft Lottery taking center stage in Chicago. There will be 14 teams vying for a chance to secure the services of one of the most coveted young players we’ve seen in quite some time, Victor Wembanyama.
It’s Draft Lottery day in the NBA
If you didn’t know, the lottery is actually presided over by a representative from the accounting firm, Ernst & Young, after which the results are sealed in an envelope and given to NBA deputy commissioner and chief operating officer, Mark Tatum. It’s then Tatum’s responsibility to unveil those results in descending order to the 14 teams that are waiting to learn which pick they will receive.
As you probably know, the No. 1 pick in the draft is awarded to the team that draws the winning four-number combination from the lottery machine. There are 14 ping-pong balls numbered one through 14, with each number representing a different team in the lottery. In total, there are 1,001 possible four-number combinations, but only one can be a winner. Once the winner has been selected, the process is then repeated for picks 2 through 4. Where the rest of the draft picks are concerned, they are selected in order of win percentage.
Who are team representatives in the NBA Draft Lottery?
Seen as a good luck charm, each team has a representative on stage as the Lottery plays out. The thinking is that just maybe their rep can court ‘lady luck,’ such that the pick they want, is the pick they get. In this year’s Draft Lottery, we’ve got a number of high-profile names such as Indiana Pacers All-Star guard Tyrese Haliburton, former Portland Trail Blazers All-Star Brandon Roy and NBA Hall of Famer Ben Wallace.
