2025 NCAA March Madness: These teams made it to the Sweet Sixteen | Schedule and matchups
The first weekend of the NCAA Tournament came to an end on Sunday night, and now we look ahead to Thursday for the start of the Sweet 16.

A wild first weekend of games is in the books and just 16 teams remain in the NCAA Tournament. The Sweet 16 stage is set, and there are some top programs, legendary coaches and college hoops’ best player looking to put on a show. Two wins stand between the teams that survived opening weekend and the Final Four.
And then there were 16
The action tipped off with the North Carolina Tarheels beating San Diego State in the First Four on Tuesday after barely sneaking into the tournament. Since then 51 games have been played. We have seen late game winners, top teams fall, and the two-time defending champions have their bid for a three-peat cut short.
The UCONN Huskies took the No. 1 seed Florida Gators all 12 rounds, but fell short to Todd Golden’s team on Sunday afternoon. All four one seeds survived the first two rounds, while the clock struck midnight on the Cinderella’s early in this year’s tournament.
McNeese State and their superstar student manager Amir “Aura” Khan were the darlings of the Big Dance, but had their dream run cut short by Purdue in the second round. Colorado State were the other Cinderella team to survive on their first game, and they took Maryland to the very end before having their hearts broken by the one and only game winning buzzer beater of weekend one.

This tourney has been as much about the legendary coaches as it has the players. John Calapari has his 10 seeded Arkansas Razorbacks heading to the Sweet 16 after dropping Bill Self and Kansas and then Rick Pitino and St. John’s in back-to-back games. Arkansas is the only double digit seed to have made the Sweet 16 and they will take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the next round.
