Alabama’s Darius Miles denied bail case of fatal shooting but what about top prospect Brandon Miller?

With questions continuing to be raised about whether the case of Alabama’s promising young basketballers has been handled correctly, what is in fact clear is that a young mother lost her life and for that, someone must be held accountable. How that pans out, we can only wait to see.
Alabama’s Darius Miles denied bail
According to reports, former Alabama basketball player, Darius Miles, was denied bail on Wednesday. If you missed our previous reports, Miles is currently facing a capital murder charge in connection with a fatal shooting which occurred in the vicinity of the campus earlier this year. Denied by Tuscaloosa County Circuit Judge, Daniel Pruet, Miles was told that his bail situation could in fact be re-addressed in future by Pruet.
Where the specifics are concerned, Miles and his friend Michael Davis were indicted on capital murder charges by a Tuscaloosa grand jury earlier this year, in connection with a shooting that took place on January 15th and resulted in the death of 23-year-old Jamea Harris. As per court documents, it is alleged that Miles admitted to providing Davis with the gun that was used in the shooting, before stating that it was Davis who fired the weapon. It is understood, that the shooting followed an altercation between Davis and Harris’ boyfriend outside of a nearby bar. Miles claimed that he saw a gun being passed around inside of Harris’ car, when he removed Davis from the scene. Miles also stated that it was at that point that he contacted Alabama’s star player, Brandon Miller, who he asked to bring his gun. While it remains unclear as to whether Miller actually saw the message, what we do know is that after he arrived at approximately 1:45 a.m., Miles and Davis got the fun from the backseat of Miller’s car and began to fire.
What do we know about Darius Miles’ actions and what about Brandon Miller?
As reports confirmed, both Davis and Miles were arrested on January 15th and subsequently charged with capital murder just under two months later. If you’re wondering what the “capital” designation in the charge means, it relates to the victim being killed while in a vehicle. To be clear, such a charge carries the possibility of a death sentence in Alabama.
Regarding Miller, who is widely projected to be one of the top picks in the upcoming NBA Draft, he has not faced any charges and has in fact continued to play for the team. Needless to say, that fact has caused considerable debate and even more so after the Crimson Tide’s coach, Nate Oats, claimed that Miller was in “the wrong spot at the wrong time.” To make matters worse, Miller has continuously used a “pat down” act in his pre-game intro, something which Oats conceded is “inappropriate.” For the moment, there has been no official word on when Miles is expected back in court, however, the presiding judge did express to both attorneys on Wednesday, that “this case is in its infancy.”
