Is Austin Reed playing in the Famous Toastery Bowl against Old Dominion? Western Kentucky QB status
There are some indications that the WKU Hilltoppers quarterback will not play in today’s Famous Toastery Bowl at Jerry Richardson Stadium in Charlotte, NC.
The annual Bahamas Bowl was scheduled to take place in the Bahamas this season. Still, due to incomplete renovations at the original venue, Jerry Richardson Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, was chosen as the new location. The upcoming game will feature a match-up between Old Dominion and Western Kentucky.
Old Dominion’s road to the bowl game was paved with victories in their last two games, which they won by scoring on the final play of each game against Georgia Southern and Georgia State. They will be looking to continue their winning streak with a victory over their former Conference USA rival.
On the other side, Western Kentucky has a strong history of bowl game appearances, having participated in nine of the previous 11 seasons. The Hilltoppers have won six of their nine bowl games and are looking to improve on their record this year.
Will the Hilltoppers first quarterback start the game?
The biggest question looming over Western Kentucky is the status of their quarterback, Austin Reed.
Reed has been a key player for the Hilltoppers, throwing for 3,340 yards and 31 touchdowns this season. There are concerns that he may opt out of the upcoming game, leaving Turner Helton to start.
Helton has only thrown eight passes for 82 yards this season and has limited experience as the starting quarterback. This situation has left Western Kentucky fans wondering what the team’s offensive strategy will be if Reed cannot play.
