Following the tragic events that resulted in the rapper’s death, one former NFL star turned college coach is not taking any chances with his charges as they prepare for a game in Texas.

Deion Sanders forbids Jackson State players from leaving hotel

As we now know, rapper and Migos member Takeoff was shot and killed in Houston on Tuesday morning. The young entertainer’s life was snuffed out following what seems to have been a dispute during a game of dice. To be clear, there have been very few details surrounding what actually happened and why, however, what remains certain is that a young man sadly lost his life. In the wake of Takeoff’s death - his real name is Kirshnik Khari Ball - there has understandably been a wide range of responses. From outpourings of grief and condolences, to acknowledgements of his talent. Yet, there’s one former NFL star who has taken the tragedy into consideration, now that he’s a college coach.

Former 49ers cornerback Deion Sanders is now the man in charge of Jackson State and following Takeoff’s death, the two-time Super Bowl champion made it clear that he has no intention of allowing his players to leave their hotel while on the road in Houston. Currently on the road for a game against Texas Souther, the Tigers coach has apparently put his foot down where his players’ liberties are concerned. Sanders made it clear to the team, that aside from the game itself, they will not be allowed to leave the hotel, such that any visitors that they wish to receive will have to come to the hotel itself.

What did Deion Sanders say about Takeoff’s death?

When asked about his decision in the wake of Takeoff’s murder, the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year was clear about where he stood and why. “Takeoff was murdered in a dice game in Houston,” Sanders said. “Where we’re going. So, that eliminates all of y’all from leaving the hotel because it ain’t happening until I give you further notice. Whatever her name is, whoever she is, parents and everybody they’re going to come to the hotel to visit you. Because y’all ain’t leaving.” Jackson State are now sitting on top of the SWAC standings with a 5-0 record, while Texas Southern are 4-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

In the wake of Takeoff’s death, a number of famous athletes have expressed their sadness about the terrible event. Yet, perhaps the most apt of messages was that of fellow artist Juice Wayne who tweeted a heartfelt lamentation about the senseless violence that we witness today. “Takeoff, man...Offset lost a brother he’ll never get to fix things with. For nothing. Quavo lost his nephew. For nothing. Rap lost a good one. For nothing. All this bloodshed. For nothing. It’ll never make sense. Never ever. Rest in Peace. Prayers to the family of the fallen.”
