Update:

Just one year after the Oklahoma ladies put on one of the most dominant performances ever seen in the Women’s College World Series, they have made their entrance with a bang, announcing to one and all their full intention of three-peating as national champions.

Jordy Bahl dominated on the mound for the Sooners, pitching a complete game, two-hit shutout, striking out ten Seminoles on the way to a 5-0 win in Game 1. They now stand just one win away from completing one of the greatest seasons in NCAA history.

With this win, the Sooners have extended an already-NCAA record win streak to 52 consecutive games. The last game that they lost was way back in February, when they fell 4-3 on the road to Baylor. Their record this season is now 56-1 and they will certainly go down in history as one of the strongest college softball teams ever fielded.

Should Oklahoma three-peat, they will join UCLA as the only school to have ever accomplished the feat in WCWS history.

Florida State were matching Oklahoma punch for punch until the fourth inning, when a pitch hit Oklahoma’s Haley Lee, causing the Seminoles to pull Mack Leonard off the mound. Leonard had held the Sooners in check but Danielle Watson gave up a Kinzie Hansen double and Alyssa Brito single to open the scoring.

The Sooners tacked on two more but the Seminoles managed to avoid getting run-ruled when left fielder Kaley Mudge made a spectacular play at the wall to rob a three-run homer from Haley Lee.

Florida State will need to tighten a few screws if they want to pull this one back in Game 2, but from the stands it looks like Oklahoma is a juggernaut, and an unstoppable one at that.
