What do we know about the ‘cruelty to children’ charges against Georgia’s wide receiver Rara Thomas?

Following a transfer from Mississippi State, the WR established himself as a go-to player for the Bulldogs. Now suspended, all of that looks to be over.

Paul Rudder
A former soccer player who now lives and works in Barcelona, Paul has been living in Spain since 2011. Ten years later in 2021 is when he joined the Diario AS family and he's been churning out articles about sports ever since. When not working, Paul enjoys hanging with his friends or playing soccer with his team. Aside from those two, he's also a person who loves learning about history, culture, human behavior and the way in which it's affected by the other two. He continues to look for opportunities to grow both mentally and professionally.
Update:

The Bulldogs and their fans have been hit hard given that Thomas was expected to play a key role in the team’s offense this coming season. On the other hand, when one considers what the pass catcher has been accused of, that should be the least of anyone’s concerns right now.

Rara Thomas suspended by Georgia after arrest for child cruelty

When reading reports about Georgia wide receiver Rara Thomas, it’s hard to process. As per reports, Thomas was suspended indefinitely by the program after he was arrested Friday morning on a felony charge of cruelty to children and two misdemeanor charges of battery. Thomas was booked at 3:20 a.m.

Now, this is where things get even worse as this is in fact Thomas’ second arrest on similar charges. In January 2023, the 21-year-old was detained by law enforcement officers on a felony charge of false imprisonment and a misdemeanor charge of family violence. It should be said that those charges were later dismissed after a deal was brokered between prosecutors and Thomas’ attorney. Nonetheless, it was not a good look for a player who was a four-star prospect in the 2023 transfer portal before transferring to Georgia after two years at Mississippi State.

In his first season with the program, Thomas featured in 11 games, notching 23 catches for 383 yards and one touchdown. While the Bulldogs do have depth in the position, it should be noted once more that Thomas was expected to play a major role in the offense this coming campaign. At this point, it remains unclear what the future holds where the Bulldogs are concerned and that’s before we even touch on the legal troubles that he now faces, but one can only hope that whatever the outcome, Thomas, has learned that such behavior is simply unacceptable.
