As we approach the final weekend of college football, we’re getting closer to knowing which teams will play in which bowl games. The NCAA bowl season kicks off on Saturday, December 14 and concludes on Monday, January 20, 2025 with the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

This year marks the inaugural year of the 12-team College Football Playoffs. With 82 teams set to compete in 41 games, 77 have already secured eligibility to participate.

Announcement of bowl matchups

The CFP selection committee is set to release a new rankings list on Tuesday night, which will give us a clue as to what we can expect on for the matchups.

The official announcement of the college football bowl matchups is scheduled for this Sunday, December 8 after the CFP selection committee releases the 12-team playoff field and the bowl organizers reveal their selections and agreements.

Teams still on the hunt

To be bowl eligible, teams need at least six wins and an above .500 winning percentage, but just one victory over an FCS opponent can count towards eligibility. However, not all teams who meet this criteria will necessarily get a spot in a bowl game, as there cannot be more than 82 teams.

Teams still on the hunt for their sixth win include Appalachian State, Auburn, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Eastern Michigan, Kansas, Louisiana-Monroe, Michigan State, New Mexico, NC State, North Texas, Oregon State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Western Michigan, and Wisconsin.

College Football Playoff schedule

Here is the full schedule for the College Football Playoffs, starting with the first round on Friday, December 20, when the No. 5-8 seeds will host a rare mid-December contest.

The quarterfinals, semifinals, and final will be played at neutral sites. The first quarterfinal will be on December 31 in Arizona and the traditional New Years' locations for the Rose, Peach, and Sugar Bowls will host their games on January 1. Semifinals take place on January 9 and 10 in Miami, Florida and Arlington, Texas. The championship game on January 20 will take place in Atlanta.
