The Penn State tight end is among the players expected to go earliest in the 2025 NFL Draft, which takes place this week in Green Bay.
Tight end Tyler Warren is being heavily tipped as a top-10 selection at this week’s NFL Draft in Wisconsin, after enjoying a record-breaking college-football career with the Penn State Nittany Lions.
As is evidenced by a series of mock Drafts published on NFL.com and elsewhere, numerous experts expect Warren, 22, to be snapped up by the New York Jets, who have the seventh pick in round one of the Draft.
Other teams linked with Warren include the Chicago Bears, who have the 10th pick.
Who is Tyler Warren?
A TE measuring 6ft 6in in height, and weighing 249lb, Warren is preparing to make the step-up to pro football after five seasons with Penn State. In 56 appearances for the Nittany Lions - of which 31 were starts - he accumulated 153 receptions for 1,839 yards and 19 touchdowns, and ran for 224 yards and six touchdowns.
Among the numerous records he set during his Penn State career, Warren’s overall tally of touchdown receptions is the fifth-highest in program history, while his 2024 total of 104 catches is a single-season record for a Penn State player. Seventeen of those receptions came in a 33-30 overtime win over the USC Trojans in October - a single-game haul that is unmatched in Nittany Lions history.
At the end of Warren’s final year in Pennsylvania, which saw the Nittany Lions reach the semi-finals of the College Football Playoff, the player was presented with the 2024 John Mackey Award as the top tight end in the NCAA. Warren also finished seventh in the voting for the Heisman Trophy, an accolade awarded to the season’s outstanding overall performer in college football.
Potential to become one of the NFL’s top tight ends
According to a scouting report by NFL analyst Lance Zierlein, Warren “has a chance to become one of the best tight ends in the league”.
Noting that the Draft prospect has “the size, athleticism and competitive spirit to make good on his intentions”, Zierlein describes Warren as a player with “the ball skills and toughness to win contested catches and withstand punishing contact”.
A Bleacher Report examination of Warren’s credentials, meanwhile, notes that his experience of playing other positions has helped him to hone his abilities.
“He is a former high school quarterback and understands the importance of finding soft spots within the defense,” writes BR’s scouting department. “Warren settles into those soft spots as a big weapon for his quarterback to target. His burst post catch allows him to eat up grass quickly. He is a long strider who gallops more than sprints past defenders.”

Held at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, the 2025 NFL Draft is to take place from Thursday, April 24, to Saturday, April 26. The opening round is scheduled to get going at 8:00 p.m. ET on Thursday.
